Toolkit 2: Maya - Lighting & Rendering 2 - Ambient Occlusion

Image
This tutorial was a little difficult to approach because it's about getting the lighting just right. I believe that if I research some more into different types of lighting then I might be able to understand it a little better.

Toolkit 2: Maya - Lighting & Rendering 2 - Mesh Lights

The mesh lighting tutorial was relatively easy to follow, although the layout of each window is fairly confusing to understand at first.

This Maya tutorial was quite interesting to experience. It's amazing how some small changes can make a big difference!

Toolkit 2: Life Drawing - 28.10.19

Image
For today's life drawing lesson, we had a new life model named Robin. He was very expressive and flamboyant which made drawing him an exciting challenge. I'm pleased with the outcome of my drawings today, and it was nice to practice recreating the male form.

Character Design: Practicing Environment

Image
For our Character lesson, we were tasked with creating a new world out of a famous building/structure and a key word. My design was based on the Eiffel Tower and the keyword, Military. The idea that I had in mind was to make the Eiffel Tower out of concrete, and use it as a military watch tower/base of operations. The top of the Tower would be a like a viewing office/computer room. I made neat version and a messy version. The neat version was going to be an environment where perhaps a secret spy was going to sneak in and steal some important documentation that is vital to the success of his employers. The messy version was going to be an environment where a war time hero bursts in to the room and has an epic battle with his enemy and thwart his evil plans. The second part of the day was then based on us exploring our character design project. I wanted to explore the female character a little more and try to flesh out her design, but I am having some difficulty trying to

Film Review: Dreamworks' "Rise of the Guardians" (2012) - Character Archetypes

Image
Figure 1. “Rise of the Guardians”  Dreamworks’ “Rise of the Guardians” (2012), directed by Peter Ramsey, is a whimsical telling of classic fairytales and myths in a modern style. It appears that the film is sort of an Avengers style visualisation of something that most people wouldn’t normally associate with ancient beings of folk lore and bedtime stories. With its cheerful disposition and colourful settings, it’s a classic for all of the family to enjoy. It can be noted that this film has incorporated The Hero’s Journey into its script, and so it will therefore also incorporate the theory of character archetypes. Character archetypes are personality descriptors for characters in creative media. The idea is to explore this theory within “Rise of the Guardians” (2012). Figure 2. “Jack Frost creating mischief” The story begins with who we can assume is our ‘Hero’ of the story, Jack Frost. It is a mystery as to where he originated from or who he is at this time, all

Toolkit 2: Maya - Weightlifting Poses 2

Image
We carried on with the weight lifting poses for Moom in our Maya class. Today was about refining the poses and adding in a few more inbetweens to start fleshing out some more realistic movement in moom, so that it starts to look like he's actually lifting something heavy. So far, I think it's going rather well, I'm excited to see how much further I can take these!

Film Review: Disney’s Hercules (1997) - The Hero’s Journey

Image
Figure 1. Hercules (1997) The mythical wonder that is Disney’s ‘ Hercules (1997) ’, titled after the main character himself, has graced our screens for all these years, and yet, it still manages to dazzle our eyes with extreme colour and filled our ears with musical joy. Directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, it’s a perfect example of how to describe Joseph Campbell’s monomyth, The Hero’s Journey. The story begins with the birth of the Hero, Hercules, son of Zeus. With immense strength and cheerful disposition, the realm of Gods seemed tranquil for a moment with the new arrival to the godly line-up. However, that happiness would be short lived, when the ever jealous Hades, lord of the underworld, would turn the small child in to a mortal. Despite what the original Greek mythology states about the main hero himself, Hercules is a happy-go-lucky chap with high hopes and not much clue about the hero business at the beginning. After becoming mortal and being adopted by two

Toolkit 2: Maya - Weightlifting Poses

Image
For our Maya class, we were tasked with creating poses to replicate Moom lifting a heavy weight. Below are the poses that I have created, both the 'Extremes' and the 'Inbetweens'. I think I've managed to get the basics down, but I also feel that there is a lot of tweaking that needs to be done.

Toolkit 2: Life Drawing - 21.10.19

Image
Today's life drawing session consisted of us understanding measuring the body in order to get the proportions as close to like as possible. We also did a piece based on tone and lighting to create form. I have a poor habit of making the head too small for the body, but I'm pleased with the overall results.
