Toolkit 2: Maya - Pipeline 1 Body Modelling - Torso & Arms

Image
I have now refined some of the geometry in the torso as well as added in the arms for Jet Pack Jones.I had a little bit of difficulty with modelling the arms as moving each vertices became a bit tedious. Now it's time to move on to the legs!

Toolkit 2: Maya - Pipeline 1 Body Modelling - Torso Blocking

I have now started to model the body for Jet Pack Jones. This tutorial was relatively straightforward as it was a case of making sure the geometry is evenly spaced.

Toolkit 2: Maya - Adding Phoneme/Visemes

Image
In class today, we continued to work on our lipsync animation with Moom. I had a bit of trouble initially as my original file became corrupted, so I needed to animate the jaw bounce again, but it didn't take too long as I remembered what to do from the previous lesson. I have now added in phoneme/visemes to emphasise the dialogue.

Toolkit 2: Maya - Lighting & Rendering 2 - (Faking) Caustics

Image
I had some trouble with this tutorial because when setting the project on Maya, it froze and wouldn't allow me to close the window. I had to work with the textures off, but I managed to complete the tutorial and render out the scene.

Toolkit 2: Maya - Lighting & Rendering 2 - AOV's

This tutorial was a little tricky to follow as I still don't fully understand how to navigate Adobe After Effects. I will be listing these steps in a notebook so that I remember the process for a later time.

Toolkit 2: Life Drawing - 17.02.20

For today's life drawing session, we had Robin as our subject. We started off with some 3 minute poses, and then moved on to 10 minute poses. After reading week, it feels nice to get back in to the drawing space and be creative.

Premise: Opening Scene Rough Storyboard

Image
For my animation, I’ve decided to create some rough storyboards so I can get down what I think the opening scene would look like. The idea was to show RenĂ© looking at the Eiffel Tower, grieving the loss of his love Linette, and as he looks around the park, he sees flashbacks of times that they spent together. This is so that I can introduce the relationship between the characters without making the film too long. I feel that I might struggle with this a little as there is a lot of ideas that I want to include, but I don’t want to make it too lengthy. I am going to continue roughing out how I think the scenes will play out.

Toolkit 2: Maya - Understanding Dialogue/Phonetics

Image
For this lesson, we were tasked with animating Moom to lipsync with an audio clip provided. To begin with, we are just moving the jaw up and down, however we need to make sure that the jaw moves in time with the words. We will then move on to shaping the mouth.

Premise: Influence Maps and Story Ideas

Image
After speaking with my tutors, Alan and Justin, it was discussed that for this project I could do a continuation of my Character Design project. I really enjoyed this idea as I had a lot of fun with my Character project and wanted to develop it further. To begin with, I quickly made some influence maps to remind myself of where I want to go with this animation. I was advised to look at Disney’s Paperman (2012) in regards to animation style. I also want to incorporate the Art Nouveau style as well, so it will be interesting to see how that will translate in to 3D animation. I also added in some images from Disney’s Enchanted (2007) as I liked the colours and art style in the animated segments of the film. In regards to the story of my animation, it will be a romantic piece set in 1920’s Paris, France. It’s about two lovers of different social status who meet and fall in love, but one of them meets a tragic fate and passes away. The animation will be about how they ov
