Major: Reflective Statement

There have been many hardships and emotions that I have experienced when completing the Major project. To say it was difficult is a bit of an understatement, but on the flip side, it has been satisfying to see the progress that I have made in the past few months.  There are many things that I wish I could change about this project as I feel that my abilities to animate and produce a short film are not up to scratch when thinking about it in a professional manner. There are still many things that I need to learn to be able to reach my personal goals and there have been times when I doubted my capabilities as an artist and animator. I have caught myself wondering whether I am good enough to enter this industry at times. But I do still try and remind myself that I did the best that I could despite the pandemic and how that effected my productivity and mental health. This is something that I’m constantly working on so that I can better look after myself in the future which will hopeful...

Minor: Reflective Statement

The Minor project has been quite a journey for me in terms of professional growth. Due to the unforseen circumstances of current world events, things took a turn for all us, and we delved into the world of working from home. I feel quite fortunate that I have access to a working computer at home, even if the internet can be a bit tempermental.  When it comes to the work for my project, I feel that the premise of my story was relatively good; the idea of a romance involving a ghost and a human seemed quite exciting and I wanted to work with that. Utilising this concept did prove a little challenging though. It wasn't so much  that I couldn't come up with a story for this concept, but rather I had several ideas that didn't quite hit the mark for me, and so this has lead me to fall behind a little, as I now need to redraft my storyboard to fit the new idea. I have been struggling to come up with something engaging and entertaining, and am still learning about camera shots t...

Toolkit 2: Reflective Statement

After spending some time reflecting on my contribution to Toolkit 2, I have to say that my feelings towards this project are a bit mixed. Having rejoined the course back in September after a few years working on my health, I knew that there would be some challenges ahead in terms of readjusting to the workflow and computer programs. I was pleased to find out that my knowledge hadn't completely disappeared, however I did feel at a slight disadvantage because there were still some things that I needed to re-learn. I believe that the Maya tutorials helped with that process immensely, and I feel fortunate to be able to have access to these. On the flip side, however, I do believe I have let myself down in terms of time management, not only in regards to Maya, but also my Character Design project. I will hold myself accountable and not make excuses, because I believe that if I don't start picking up the slack then I will truly fall behind not just in university, but also my future c...

Premise: Reflective Statement

Premise has been a bit of a difficult experience for me as an artist and student. While I am pleased that I have been able to create a story and design the appearance of the setting and characters, I am ultimately a little disappointed in myself for not being able to push myself further. As my Premise is a continuation from my Character Design project, I feel that I have let myself down for not having more work to show for the time that I have had to complete it. There are so many skills that I need to develop in order for me to consider myself a working professional and the sense of imposter syndrome has been lurking in the back of my mind all this time. My biggest concern is that I will be incapable of producing a good story an animation at the end of my third year, and that I don't have the mindset of a creative professional. That being said, I do believe that there is still hope for my project yet. I think I have a good foundation for creating a beautiful story of romance and m...

Collaboration: Reflective Statement

Image
As the Collaboration project has now been completed, I would like to reflect upon my efforts and contributions towards it. I must admit, that although I understood the amount of commitment I needed to provide, I was still a bit surprised at how much work each of the tasks would entail. It has been stressful, but rewarding nonetheless, as I feel that I have accomplished more than I would’ve thought I could. However, saying that, I feel that my skills are below average, meaning I have a lot of work to do to improve myself, especially in my communication with my team, and my animating skills. I feel like I could’ve achieved much more if I managed my time properly, but I think my biggest obstacle is knowing how to ask for help, out of fear of appearing silly, but also not knowing what to ask. Animation is difficult for me to process and understand, which is why my part of our final animation looks unfinished. In all honesty, Collaboration has been difficult to come to terms with, a...
